Angel di Maria shortlisted for La Liga’s best South American player award in 2013/14

Angel di Maria has been nominated for the Best South American player in the 2013/14 La Liga season alongside Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca and Barcelona’s Neymar.
The Argentinian winger scored four goals and had a league high 18 assists in 38 appearances as well as three goals and six assists in 11 appearances during Real Madrid’s successful UEFA Champions League campaign.
It was form which made him one of the best players of last season in the world and was a prelude to Manchester United signing him for a club record £59.7m in the summer.
In an official statement on their website, La Liga said: “Carlos Bacca, Sevilla FC’s striker, Angel Di María, the ex-Real Madrid CF player, and Neymar Jr, who joined FC Barcelona last season are in the battle for the Best American Player in the 2013-14 Liga BBVA on 27 October at the 2014 LFP Awards Ceremony.”
Speaking directly about Di Maria, the statement said: “His stats over four seasons with Real Madrid were so spectacular that the Premier League came knocking.
“Di María left 36 goals in his wake with Los Blancos and, even more impressively, 87 assists in the four years he spent at the Santiago Bernabéu. Electricity, power, movement and pace are the Argentinian’s trump cards.”
The award will be handed out on 27 October at the LFP Awards Ceremony
